How to make incredibly tasty Spam fritters, easy step by step instructions, from start to finish.
Ingredients
Method
- The Crispy Batter:
- 1 tin/can of Spam
- 90g / 3.2oz Plain or all- purpose flour
- 30g / 1oz Corn flour (corn starch)
- 4g / 1tsp Baking powder
- 4g / 1tsp Ground Turmeric
- 150g / 150mls Ice cold Soda water or Larger
- Seasoned Plain flour (on a plate)
- Oil for frying
- Making The Crispy Batter:
- Push all of the dry ingredients through a fine sieve into a bowl.
- Add the soda water or larger to the bowl, gently mix together using a spatula, don’t over mix.
- Get the oil onto a medium heat.
- Cut your spam into however many slices you need, one large can yields approx.: 10 slices
- Dredge the spam slices in the seasoned flour, pat off any excess flour.
- To ensure a good coat of batter submerge the floured spam slices in the batter mix.
- Once you oil is hot, somewhere between 140 and 150°C, that’s 280 to 300°F. You can also test the oil hot enough by drizzling a little batter into it.
- Your fritters should start floating in the oil, just keep them moving a turning them occasionally, to keep the colour even.
- The fritters should be fully cooked after 6 or 7 minutes.
- Carefully lift them out, and onto some kitchen paper to soak up any excess oil.
- I serve these piping hot, with fried egg, chips/fries and baked beans.
- Enjoy.
