Ingredients
Method
- 255g / 9oz Sponge cake (plain)
- 570mls / 1pt Strawberry Jelly
- 400g / 14oz Fresh Strawberries (sliced)
- 40g / 1½oz Custard powder + 570ml / 1pt Milk
- 25g / 1oz Sugar
- 300ml Double/Heavy Cream
- 6ml / 1tsp Vanilla extract
- 10g / 2tsp Icing/powdered Sugar
- Grated Chocolate for topping
- Cut the sponge cake into 2.5cm / 1in cubes, and get them into 2ltr trifle bowl, or any other 2ltr bowl.
- Wash and slice the strawberries and place them in the bowl too.
- Make up the strawberry jelly/Jell-O according to the instructions of the brand you are using and pour it over the sponge and fruit.
- Cover the bowl and get it into the fridge until it sets.
- Make up the custard, using custard powder as shown in the video.
- Once the custard is cool and the jelly set, spoon the custard onto the jelly and spread it out and level it off, cover and chill again for 30 minutes.
- Making up the Chantilly cream, pour the cream into a bowl, add the icing sugar and vanilla, and whisk until thick as seen in the video, chill for 15 minutes.
- Spoon the cream on top of the custard and spread it out, I find a fork is the best tool for this.
- Clean up any cream around the top of the glass trifle bowl with kitchen paper.
- Finely grate a little milk or dark chocolate over the top of the trifle.
- And that is it, your Strawberry family size trifle is ready to serve.
- Serve on a dessert plate with some sliced fresh strawberries at the side.
- Enjoy.
